Born in France, singer and songwriter Marc Farre later relocated to the United States. There he oversaw operations for the Merce Cunningham Dance Company throughout the 1980s while also collaborating with avant-garde classical composer John Cage. During the 1990s he earned album credits for translating liner notes on releases featuring Cage and additional classical artists. Across the 1980s and 1990s he supplied a dozen scores for modern dance. That connection with Cage led to an introduction to classical label MODE, which placed him on its AVANT imprint despite his wish to record pop and rock songs and issued his debut EP, Margaret Maybe, in 1994. The project drew scant attention, prompting Farre to secure his departure and handle later releases himself via his All Weather label. Unsafe Songs, his first full-length album, appeared in 1998. Man on the Sun arrived the following September 2000. Following the 9/11 terrorist attacks he issued the benefit single “Prayer Flags” to radio only. In 2003 he composed the score for the public-television documentary He Who Is Blessed. His third full-length CD, Secret Symphony, was released on June 23, 2008.
