Biography
In 1968 the Peermont imprint, a Shreveport, Louisiana concern that functioned as a subsidiary of Murco, pressed Marcus Brown’s lone soul single, pairing “I’m Coming Home” with “Hey Little Girl.” Murco proprietor Dee Marais later recalled that he considered Brown’s voice inadequate yet agreed to record and issue the disc simply because the artist requested it, an act of generosity that would bankrupt any company if repeated routinely. Brown’s singing struck him as merely average, while the A-side came across as a serviceable blues-tinged soul ballad; the track subsequently resurfaced on Kent’s anthology Shreveport Southern Soul: The Murco Story.
