Biography
Born to a career diplomat, singer/songwriter Marcus Hummon passed his early years crisscrossing continents and resided at different points in Italy, Africa, and the Philippines. Once his family put down roots in Washington, D.C., during his teenage period, he joined his three sisters to perform in the ensemble Harmony. After finishing college he headed to Los Angeles in 1984 in pursuit of a recording contract. Months of disappointment prompted a move to Nashville in 1986. Although he and his band Redwing swiftly gained traction on local stages, a label deal remained out of reach for years. Breakthrough arrived first through songwriting when Wynonna reached the Top Three in 1993 with his composition “Only Love.” Alabama followed suit the next year by charting with “Cheap Seats,” and further cuts found their way to Hal Ketchum, Patty Loveless, and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Those placements finally opened the door for Hummon’s own debut album, All in Good Time, issued in 1995.
