Biography
Maria Chiara Argirò works as a pianist and composer whose music extends from jazz roots into folk, art-pop, and electronic territories. Her initial solo outing arrived as the largely acoustic The Fall Dance in 2016, after which later projects broadened her palette, incorporating house elements and atmospheric indie rock textures on Forest City in 2022. The 2024 release Closer marked a further step as an adventurous electronic pop album.
Rome native Argirò began classical piano instruction during childhood yet developed a strong attachment to jazz during her teenage years while also developing affinities for Pink Floyd and Nick Drake. She pursued studies at the London Centre of Contemporary Music and Middlesex University before undertaking extensive tours and recording sessions alongside These New Puritans and Kinkajous. Odradek Records issued her debut album The Fall Dance in 2016. Leila Martial, the vocalist featured on that project, rejoined for Hidden Seas in 2019, which Cavalo Records put out; Argirò had established the label with regular associate Liran Donin. The 2020 collaboration Flow paired her with guitarist Jamie Leeming. For the 2022 Innovative Leisure album Forest City Argirò effected a pronounced change toward electronics, drawing on house and trip-hop while employing her own vocals for the first time. Closer from 2024 advanced deeper into electronic pop by merging vibrant melodies and glitchy vocals with downtempo and garage beats.
