Maria Salgado's vocal delivery, which rootsworld.com commended for its "precise intonations and sunny, smiling, sound," carried the Castillan music of Spain onto the worldwide stage. Her 1999 debut solo album Miradante examined Cuba's habanera tradition, while the second solo effort Siete Modos De Guisar Las Berenjenas adopted a wider pan-Mediterranean stance that fused Spanish and Sephardic material. She entered the recording sphere in 1997 on the shared release La Sal de la Vida, joined by Sudan-born and Spain-based vocalist and percussionist Rasha along with Galician singer Uxia.
