Born in Miami to parents of Puerto Rican and Cuban heritage, Mariah Angeliq creates reggaeton, trap, and R&B as a singer whose style revives the commanding presence once associated with figures like her idol Ivy Queen. Multi-platinum producer Nely, also known as El Arma Secreta, discovered her, and media outlets have since described her as the representative voice for an emerging wave of Latin talent across the United States. She has appeared at SXSW and the Calle 8 Festival while contributing to tracks alongside Nicky Jam, Myke Towers, and Casper Magico. Her first release for Universal Latino, the 2019 single “Perreito,” surpassed one million streams in its opening week, and the accompanying video accumulated millions of views within months.

Mariah Angeliq entered the world in Miami, where her mother chose the name in tribute to Mariah Carey, the vocalist who first captured the younger artist’s attention through performance rather than nomenclature. Spanish served as her initial language; she acquired English only after turning three. Early listening encompassed R&B, classic hip-hop, and Latin pop spanning reggaeton through Marc Anthony. Though unaware at the time of possessing a singer’s natural range, she had always aimed to produce music. While tracking trap instrumentals over her own raps at fifteen inside a studio, she recognized her vocal ability and thereafter trained to convey R&B material convincingly in English. An introduction to Nely and his brother Misael De La Cruz led them to recommend recording in Spanish. At eighteen she issued the reggaeton-infused trap videos “Blah” and “Malo,” both helmed by Nely; the former gained traction and attracted interest from multiple labels, prompting immediate club and festival appearances. Following her January 2019 signing with Universal, she received invitations to SXSW and the Calle 8 Festival before unveiling “Perreito” that June. The track reached charts in fourteen countries, and by September it had logged more than sixteen million distinct audio streams while its video tallied eleven million views.
