Biography
Born in 1919 in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, Bryant died on 23 May 1978 in Los Angeles, California, USA. During the 1940s this vocalist, noted for her agreeable tone and assured stage manner, performed alongside several prominent jazz figures in New York. She appeared on record in 1946 within an ensemble that featured Peanuts Hucko and Bernie Leighton, and again that same year alongside Al Casey. In 1952 Bryant cut sides in London with accompaniment from the Mike McKenzie Quartet, whose members included Humphrey Lyttelton. Jazz listeners chiefly recall her through the 1944 screen appearance in Jammin’ The Blues, the Norman Granz–Gjon Mili classic.
