Biography
Born on August 31, 1948, in Montreal, Quebec, Marie-Lynn Hammond served as lead vocalist for the celebrated Canadian folk ensemble Stringband in its formative period. She assembled the trio in Ontario during 1971 alongside banjoist Bob Bossin and fiddle player Terry King. Their first recording, Canadian Sunset, appeared in 1974, after which the group issued additional LPs until disbanding in 1977. Hammond’s self-titled solo debut arrived the following year. She remained absent from recording until returning with Vignettes in 1983; Impromptu appeared two years afterward. Later releases comprised Black & White...and shades of grey in 1990 and Imprompt2 in 1995. She also composed a song cycle about her grandmothers that became the stage musical Beautiful Deeds/De Beaux Gestes and hosted the CBC radio series Musical Friends.
