Biography
Marinho da Muda ranked among the founders of Império da Tijuca and supplied hits to Jorge Veiga—including the co-written “Boi com Abóbora”—as well as to Clara Nunes and additional interpreters. At twenty-two he completed his debut composition, “Deixei a Boêmia.” The school first paraded to one of his sambas-enredo in 1956 and continued featuring his work with consistent success in subsequent years. In 1959 Império da Tijuca earned third place in Grupo II with “Homenagem aos Bombeiros,” credited to Marinho da Muda alongside Henrique Cândido and João Galvão. Five years afterward the same school captured second place in the second division with the samba-enredo “Esplendor do Rio Imperial,” written with Nélson Fonseca and João Galvão. In 1967 the composer’s “Reino Encantado de Vicente Guimarães,” created with Jorge Melodia, secured Unidos da Tijuca eighth position in Grupo I. Another notable commercial achievement arrived in 1970 when Os Originais do Samba recorded “Uma Praça e Você.” Three years later he scored a Carnaval success with “Ninguém Tasca,” again partnering with João Quadrado. Sabrina included the track “Pé de Galinha Não Machuca Pinto,” co-authored with Heraldo Faria, on her 1978 album Eu Sou Eu. Beginning in 1972 and continuing until his death, he performed regularly as a singer on television outlets in São Paulo and Recife, Pernambuco.
