Biography
Mark Brown, the British conductor, ranks among the co-founders and directors of Pro Cantione Antiqua, the vocal ensemble devoted to early music. Working alongside tenor James Griffett, countertenor Paul Esswood, and musicologist Bruno Turner, he shaped the group’s singular identity, one that applied equal commitment to medieval repertoire and contemporary pieces alike. Brown has directed Pro Cantione Antiqua through engagements spanning Europe, the United States, and the Far East, in addition to nearly 90 recordings.
