Since the 1980s Mark Carson has maintained a steady presence within the New Orleans and broader Louisiana music community. His early years were spent performing alongside the award-winning ensemble The Murmurs, a group he established and for which he composed numerous original pieces. Toward the close of the 1990s he assembled the Mark Carson Band, whose lineup included Timmy Baudier, Robert May, Rick Rooney, and Charles Brewer.

A longtime figure in New Orleans music circles, Timmy Baudier began performing with local acts at age fifteen. He contributes several compositions to the band’s repertoire; his sharper rock-pop approach provides contrast to Mark Carson’s more straightforward pop songwriting. Robert May handles both guitar and bass with notable skill. After receiving classical guitar instruction, he performed on bass with various ensembles, among them the Rhythm & Blues funk outfit Rumboogie. As the most recent member to join, his robust vocals have enriched the layered harmonies that distinguish the band’s sound.

Rick Rooney and Charles Brewer previously belonged to The Murmurs and now anchor the rhythm section. Rick Rooney supplies solid bass lines and backing vocals that reinforce the overall ensemble. After departing The Murmurs, Charles Brewer explored an array of genres—Fusion, Funk, Zydeco, and Blues—experience that places him among the region’s most capable drummers. His playing imparts a distinctive edge to the band’s material, an asset the group greatly values.

The Mark Carson Band’s style draws from multiple influences yet remains rooted in pop-rock. Observers have occasionally labeled it “acoustic rock” because Mark Carson and Robert May frequently perform on acoustic guitars. Timmy Baudier’s songs lean further toward rock, spotlighting his guitar work. Collectively these seasoned performers deliver sets that consistently energize audiences.
