Among Britain's foremost exponents of the Baroque cello and viola da gamba stands Mark Caudle. From the 1970s onward he has appeared with nearly every London-based period-instrument ensemble, among them the Consort of Musicke, the Taverner Players, the English Baroque Soloists, the Academy of Ancient Music, the Brandenburg Consort, and the Parley of Instruments. After moving to Poland he collaborated with Concerto Polacco, L'Arte dei Suonatori, and the ensemble he founded, Harmonia Parnassia. He has also served as principal cellist for Concerto Copenhagen and supplied continuo for the Drottningholm Festival in Sweden as well as for the English National Opera in London. Caudle maintains an extensive discography that encompasses Telemann's Concerto for recorder and bass viol, recorded with L'Arte Suonatori on the Swedish label BIS, and the anthology of eighteenth-century English bass-viol music titled The Noble Bass Viol, made with members of the Parley of Instruments for Hyperion. Beyond performance he constructs violins.
