His formal training began at the University of Oregon and continued at Mills College, where his mentors included Robert Ashley, David Behrman, and David Rosenboom. He later held artist-in-residence positions at STEIM in Amsterdam and at the Lab. In 1985 he worked with Maryanne Amacher during the Capp Street Project in SF. He composed the soundtrack for Menagerie, a virtual-reality installation presented at Centre Pompidou in Paris. The Leonardo Music Journal published his article “Nature, Networks, Chamber Music.”
