Biography
Residing in Ashford, Kent, England, Marlody produces mysterious indie pop whose shifting moods range from hopeful and melancholic to playful and radiant. U.K. indie imprint Skep Wax issued her first album, I'm Not Sure at All, early in 2023.
A classical piano prodigy as a child, Marlody was headed toward a strong professional future before pressure and disillusionment prompted her to leave that world behind. She gravitated instead to indie rock, drawing influence from Shellac and Yo La Tengo, and soon discovered her own singing voice. Through songwriting she began channeling the anxieties and joys of that transition. Sparsely built around keyboards and piano, her pieces deliver rich melodies, airy vocal layers, and unexpected detours that alternate between delicate indie pop and forceful experimentation. After signing to the Kentish label Skep Wax, she made her recorded debut with 2023's I'm Not Sure at All.
