Marlowe Carruth

A pianist, composer, and educator by profession, Carruth issued her debut recording of uplifting music during 2016. Music formed part of her childhood surroundings, even though her mother, Cherry Folger—an orchestrator at the Terrytoons cartoon studio—passed away when Carruth was only four. At Meredith College in Raleigh, North Carolina, she pursued studies in piano and music education. Throughout most of her adult years she performed as a pianist and singer while also working as a teacher. Composition came later in life, sparked by an encounter with Tim Janis’s music inside a gift shop. In 2016 she issued the EP Eternal Light, which presented her own piano compositions framed by lush orchestral accompaniment. The resulting pieces subtly reflect her admiration for the music of Debussy, Chopin, and John Williams.
