Operating under the mononym Marshall, singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Ryan Marshall fuses indie rock, hip-hop, R&B, neo-soul, and electronic alt-pop, though he remains best recognized as one-fifth of the Juno Award-winning Canadian pop group Walk Off the Earth. The Toronto native first achieved widespread attention in the early 2010s through that folk-pop sketch group, whose inventive cover songs drew notice, above all their 2012 version of Gotye's "Somebody I Used to Know," which racked up 70 million YouTube views and landed the act a Columbia recording contract. After moving to Los Angeles, Marshall turned greater focus to production work and co-wrote material with an array of artists that included producer/DJ Tiësto, producer Ill Factor, and Finnish noisemakers Rasmus. In October 2018 he released "I Could Be the One," the lead single from his forthcoming debut solo LP, Layers.
