Biography
Known for his adaptability, Marty Ehrlich has directed engaging recording dates while also serving as an effective supporting player across varied ensembles. His earliest appearance on record came with the Human Arts Ensemble in 1972; he later attended the New England Conservatory of Music and relocated to New York in 1978. From that point forward he collaborated with leading figures such as Muhal Richard Abrams, Anthony Braxton, Julius Hemphill, and Bobby Bradford, in the last case stepping in for the late John Carter. Ehrlich has further performed duets with Anthony Cox, directed his own Dark Woods Ensemble, and issued leader sessions on the Cecma, Sound Aspects, Muse, New World, and, most frequently, Enja labels.
