Biography
Mary Ann Farley, an East Coast singer-songwriter, built a modest audience through her striking fusion of folk, rock, and pop. Raised in Newark, NJ, she performed in two all-girl groups during her teenage years yet only grew committed to composing original songs after discovering the music of the Police and Sinead O'Connor. After earning an English degree at Rutgers University, Farley entered the Manhattan and northern New Jersey club scene around 1984 while supporting herself through freelance journalism. In 1993 she produced and distributed the four-song cassette First Few Words, on which she performed piano and keyboards though frequently backed herself with acoustic guitar; positive reviews in several East Coast publications spurred her forward. Deko Music issued her debut full-length album, the excellent Daddy's Little Girl, in 1996, and two years later she anticipated an early 1999 release for the follow-up, My Life Of Crime.
