Biography
The indie rock outfit Mason Proper came together in Alpena, Michigan during 2003, consisting of Jonathan Visgr on vocals, guitar, and keyboard along with Matt Thomson handling keyboard and guitar, Zac Fineberg on bass, Brian Konicek on guitar, and Jesse Parsons behind the drums. The group first operated as Patterns in Paris before moving to Ypsilanti elsewhere in Michigan and adopting the moniker Mason Proper. Their initial album, There Is a Moth in Your Chest, appeared as a self-released effort in January 2006, complete with artwork from Grandaddy's Aaron Burtch. Interest from labels emerged by the middle of 2006, leading the band to sign with Dovecote Records based in New York. That imprint put out a revised edition of There Is a Moth in Your Chest during March 2007.
