Mass Solo Revolt, an indie rock outfit, originated in Athens, Georgia, when Martin Brummeler on guitar and James Frye on bass decided to start the project. The two had both relocated from Ypsilanti, Michigan, the city where their earlier groups Data Cadet and Propeller had already issued recordings. Tim Terilli completed the original trio. Their debut album The Sap was tracked in 2005, yet Community Billygoat Records held off on releasing it until December 2007. When the self-released follow-up Easy Mark appeared on July 1, 2008, the lineup had grown to encompass Brummeler, Frye, Derek Burdette on guitar and keyboards, and Russ Sherman on drums, although Brummeler handled virtually every instrument on the record, save for one track that featured Frye and a few cuts that used session drummers. The same material had already come out earlier under Brummeler’s name as a solo album.
