Massonix serves as the performance handle adopted by Graham Massey, the trailblazing British electronica producer, for both stage appearances and select studio work. Massey first surfaced during the 1980s through Biting Tongues, whose album and pair of EPs appeared on Factory Records between 1985 and 1986, yet he gained far greater recognition as a founding member of 808 State. Leading that group, he guided the creation of landmark electronica tracks such as “Pacific” in 1989 and “Cübik” in 1990, sustaining the project across ten years that ended with the 1998 best-of collection 808:88:98, which surveyed output from 1988 onward. Throughout the 1990s he also worked as a freelance producer and remixer, notably shaping material for Björk’s second album, Post (1995). Although Massonix functioned chiefly as a live alias, Massey issued his first recording under the name in 1990 via the standalone 12-inch Just a Little Bit More on Noise Records. Years afterward he delivered the full-length Massonix album Subtracks (2006) through Skam. During 2008 he appeared as Massonix at the Glastonbury Festival and joined Autechre on tour.
