Biography
Raised in Northern Alberta and British Columbia before eventually settling in La Glace within Grande Prairie County, Matt Patershuk works as a Canadian country and roots artist whose bluesy croon, deft guitar playing, and heartfelt slice-of-life lyrics recall Waylon Jennings, John Prine, Kris Kristofferson, and Guy Clark. He headed to Vancouver in 2012 to cut his debut album with Juno Award-winning producer and Canadian roots legend Steve Dawson. Released in 2013, Outside the Lights of Town included instrumental contributions from Dawson and fiddler Kendal Carson plus vocal performances by Grammy Award-winner Laurie Lewis. Patershuk reunited with Dawson in 2016 for the sophomore album I Was So Fond of You, a moving tribute to his sister Claire, who had died a few years earlier from injuries sustained when struck by a drunk driver. The Dawson-produced Same as I Have Ever Been arrived in 2017 and featured drummer Jay Bellerose (T-Bone Burnett and Joe Henry), John Reischman (mandolin), Ana Egge (vocals), Chris Gestrin (keyboards), and Jeremy Holmes (bass).
