Growing up amid the landscapes of northern Sweden, guitarist Mattias Windemo has established himself as an adventurous improviser drawn to electric fusion, post-bop, and avant-garde jazz. His light, airy tone has drawn comparisons to Pat Metheny. Born in Sandviken, he relocated to Stockholm upon gaining admission at seventeen to the Royal Academy of Music. In 1990, at the age of twenty, he joined forces with fellow Swedish musician Jan Helge to construct an unusual twin-neck guitar enabling one hand on each fingerboard in the manner of a keyboardist. Windemo performed on this instrument across diverse jazz venues in Stockholm, and by twenty-seven he had cut his debut album, Water Story, for Amigo Musik. In 2000 he joined Lindha Svantesson for the project ROD, issued on the same Swedish label Amigo Musik.
