Maurice Yancey & One Accord present themselves as "a group of young men who love the Lord with all our heart." The gospel vocal ensemble blends emphatic harmonies with inspired lead work to convey messages of praise and devotion. Rooted in contemporary gospel that carries a pronounced R&B influence, the ensemble took shape in 2008 and built a loyal audience within the gospel community through releases such as the 2014 album Not Your Ordinary and the 2018 project Sentiments of My Heart.

Headquartered in Portsmouth, Virginia, the group was established by Maurice Yancey, a worship leader and musician whose church singing career began at age five. Yancey handled lead vocals, supported by harmonizers Reggie Halsey, Ron Barnes, and Charles Branch. On the road they were joined by a band that included Steven Griffen on keyboards, Joshua Cuffee on guitar, Jermaine Scates on bass, and Steven Parks on drums. After launching performances in 2008, the ensemble earned recognition the next year when the Gospel Music Workshop of America designated them the outstanding new quartet.

The outfit issued its first recording, Just the Beginning, independently in 2010. Strong initial response led to a partnership with the Humility Record Group, which put out Not Your Ordinary in 2014. Gospel outlets praised the project, resulting in a Stellar Award nomination for Best Quartet of 2015. Subsequent years centered on touring before the act signed with Band Geek Music Group. Under that imprint, Sentiments of My Heart appeared in 2018 and achieved the group’s highest chart placement to date, reaching number 23 on the Top Gospel Albums survey.
