Hailing from Iowa, singer-songwriter Max Jury weaves classic Americana together with an older strain of country-rock. Multiple European tours helped him develop a global following ahead of the 2016 self-titled debut issued by London indie Marathon Artists. A run of limited-edition singles further strengthened his profile, as did the 2018 acoustic EP Notes from California.

Born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa, Jury absorbed classic country, rock, and soul during his youth before encountering Neil Young as a young teenager. Deeper immersion in country led him to Gram Parsons, the Byrds, and Willie Nelson, along with more recent acts such as Wilco, all of which shaped his developing songwriting. A scholarship took him to Berklee College of Music in Boston, yet he withdrew after one year and returned to Des Moines. There, inspiration drawn from a blue-collar job prompted heartfelt writing while he began gigging and playing piano with local groups.

His first release, the Something in the Air EP, appeared in 2014 after he signed with Marathon Artists and toured Europe and the U.S. He then went to New York to begin recording with producer Inflo at Electric Lady Studios. Following a short session, Jury traveled to Jackson, North Carolina, where he finished the tracks alongside bassist Stacy TK. The gospel-influenced single “Numb” preceded the self-titled album, which arrived in June 2016. After the 2017 U.K. release of the limited-edition 7" cover songs series Under the Covers, Jury returned in 2018 with the four-song acoustic demo EP Notes from California.
