At the age of twelve, Max Nunes—son of humorist Terra de Sena, also known as Lauro Nunes—composed the valse “Seus Olhos Confessam.” Instruction on the violão, or acoustic guitar, came from professor Milton Meirelles, the same teacher who secured the young performer’s first radio appearance on Rádio Educadora in 1934. Success in that initial broadcast led to regular appearances on the well-known Programa Casé. Subsequent engagements at Rádio Guanabara placed him alongside Lourdinha Bittencourt and Lola Silva. A poll conducted by a Carioca newspaper named him second among the Most Popular National Radio Singers. Following this auspicious entry into music, he turned to humor and built an ever-growing television following.
