Biography
A Russian tenor and composer, Berezovsky pursued studies in Kiev before taking up singing duties in St. Petersburg, where Galuppi instructed him in both voice and composition. He later traveled to Italy for further compositional training, after which he completed the opera Demofoonte that was staged there. The work’s Italian premiere carries particular distinction, being the first opera written by a Russian ever presented in Italy. His most consequential output, however, consists of sacred pieces created for the Russian church. Among them, his arrangement of Psalm 71 remains the most widely recognized.
