Japanese harpsichordist Mayako Soné trained at the Toho Gakuen School of Music, where piano instruction came from Akiko Teranishi and harpsichord lessons from Motoko Nabeshima. A prize at the 1986 Musica Antiqua International Harpsichord Competition in Bruges led her to further study with Kenneth Gilbert and Scott Ross; her debut recording, Scarlatti: Unpublished Sonatas, appeared on the Erato label in 1991 as a complement to Ross’s own projects. In 1992 she joined the Israel Chamber Orchestra as harpsichordist and has since toured with the ensemble at European music festivals. Additional activities include chamber-music performances throughout Japan, radio and television recitals, and teaching at Ueno Gakuen University, where she was appointed professor in 2009. Beginning in 2010 she launched a recording project encompassing the complete keyboard works of Rameau and Couperin, while her specialization in Bach’s keyboard music has produced both a recital series and the Toccatas album for Warner Classics.
