Alternative CCM quartet Mayfair Laundry surfaced during the late 1990s, drawing on the punk and ska revivals then current. The group originated in Los Angeles in 1996 when longtime friends and musical collaborators Frank Sandoval on guitar, Paul Dexter on bass, and David Snow on drums assembled the core lineup, later expanding to a quartet once vocalist Shannon Woolner joined. Their first album, Scrub, appeared in 1998. Woolner exited the following year, prompting Kim Dexter to take over vocals and record her initial studio work with the band on 1999’s New and Improved. Shortly afterward the members dispersed, pursuing separate solo projects, session appearances, and production efforts that received Grammy and Dove Award nominations. Mayfair Laundry reunited in 2022, channeling a guitar-forward punk-pop aesthetic into their long-awaited third album, Re.
