Primarily recognized as frontman and sole unchanging participant in the long-running underground outfit Red Krayola, Thompson first attracted attention when the group left its imprint on the psychedelic underground of the 1960s and later earned notice as participants in the post-punk movement. His lone solo outing, Corky's Debt to His Father, surfaced in 1970 on the modest Texas Revolution imprint. Like his Red Krayola recordings, the album largely resists straightforward classification through its singular eccentricities. At the same time it proves somewhat more approachable and quietly endearing, its skewed folk-rock leanings recalling aspects of Syd Barrett’s style. Drag City returned the album to circulation on compact disc during the 1990s.
