Biography
Tanzanian guitarist and bandleader Mbaraka Mwinshehe perished in a car crash during 1979, depriving East African dance music of one of its pioneers. His standing was first built during his time with Morogoro Jazz from 1964 to 1973, after which he led Super Volcano until the fatal accident six years later, extending his impact through that group.
As a guitarist without formal training, Mwinshehe performed kwela with Cuban Branch Jazz during his youth. His vocal abilities developed further through lessons from Salim Abdullah, who established Morogoro Jazz before creating the Cuban Marimba Band. At the moment of his passing, Mwinshehe had not attained his full artistic height. Dizim put out the initial installment in an anticipated collection of his recordings in 2000.
