MC Ge Gee holds the distinction of being the first woman in Christian rap, having been born in the Bronx before her upbringing occurred in Dallas. Her parents directed an inner-city youth outreach there, the same program featured in the film The Cross and the Switchblade. Positioned within the rap scene, she avoided both hardcore and pop approaches, instead extending the serious, issue-driven street-poetry tradition left by her late brother, D-Boy Rodriguez. Frontline issued her two albums, 1990’s I’m for Real and the next year’s And Now the Mission Continues.
