Biography
Emerging as one of Canada's foremost disc jockeys, the Montreal-based MC Mario attained broad recognition through his extensive array of remix compilations and enduring syndicated radio shows. Born Mario Tremblay, he first appeared in the late 1970s as part of Zinthetyzër, landing successes such as the 1982 track "Green Onion" and the 1984 release "Money-Money." He simultaneously put out his earliest DJ mixes at that time, including Downtown No. 1 and Hot Plate No. 6. By the early 1990s he performed as MC Mario Mastermind and aligned with Quality Music to deliver compilations such as 1993's Back to Basics and 1995's King Size. A short period with Polytel preceded his 1997 move to Sony, where MC Mario issued popular titles including 1999's '99 in the Sun, 2001's MC Mario.com, and 2005's Sun Factory, Vol. 6. That same artist received a 2003 Juno Award nomination for "All That I Like," while gaining further exposure on mainstream radio through the weekly programs The Mixdown and The Party Mix, and earning induction into the Canadian Dance Hall of Fame. In association with Sony-BMG Music he launched his own imprint, Tycoon Records, and he maintains co-ownership of the Montreal venue Club 1234.
