Biography
Me and That Man began as an offshoot project for Nergal, frontman of the Polish black metal group Behemoth, blending dark folk, country, and Gothic blues. The project surfaced in 2017 via the release of Songs of Love and Death. Drawing influence from Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, and Nick Cave, the outfit followed with the features-heavy New Man, New Songs, Same Shit, Vol. 1 in 2020 and its sequel, New Man, New Songs, Same Shit, Vol. 2, in 2021.
Nergal established the band to gain additional emotional release, channeling sentiments and ideas that had no place within black metal despite some thematic overlap; the resulting tone diverged sharply from his prior work. Lacking the means to complete the vision solo, he enlisted British/Polish rock musician John Porter. The debut, Songs of Love and Death, arrived on Napalm in 2017. Three years afterward came the second album, New Man, New Songs, Same Shit, Vol. 1, which included appearances by Corey Taylor of Slipknot, Brent Hinds of Mastodon, Matt Heafy of Trivium, and Sivert Høyem of Madrugada, with the next installment of the series surfacing in 2021.
