Following the collapse of his opening marriage, singer-songwriter Chase Pierson launched Mechanical Bull to funnel his romantic setbacks into country material exploring wedlock, liquor, and national aspirations. A loose collective of Woodstock players, notably the siren-voiced Avalon Peacock—daughter of singer/composer Annette Peacock—joined him in shaping the gritty, mournful songs that filled the band’s 2007 debut, Songs to Get Divorced To. That record earned attention for its sharp-witted words and singular vocal blend of Pierson’s gravel-toned delivery with Peacock’s velvety, low alto. Mechanical Bull resurfaced the next year on A Million Yesterdays, now featuring a refreshed Woodstock roster and a cameo from jazz keyboardist John Medeski.
