An indie rock foursome from Santa Ana, California, Media Jeweler distinguishes itself through jagged, high-energy playing and a penchant for irregular meters along with atypical compositional forms. Emerging in the mid-2010s, the group has maintained a singular sonic identity across releases that include the predominantly instrumental 1-800-SUCCEED of 2018 and the more singing-focused The Sublime Sculpture of Being Alive from 2021.

Sam Farzin supplies vocals and guitar, Jac Aranda handles guitar, Thom Lucero plays bass, and Bryson Mounts covers drums. The quartet tracked its 2015 debut album $99 R/T Hawaii during a three-day stay at Rhode Island’s Machines with Magnets studio alongside Seth Manchester and Keith Souza of Battles and Lightning Bolt renown. Issued on Fire Talk Records, the set remained almost entirely instrumental save for scattered vocal passages and trombone contributions. Returning to the same producers and facility, Media Jeweler refined its core approach on the 2018 follow-up 1-800-SUCCEED. A notable departure occurred with The Sublime Sculpture of Being Alive, the first release to spotlight vocals extensively; it incorporated numerous guest musicians as well as new member Graham Ulicny of the Faint, who also engineered the sessions.
