Welsh multi-instrumentalist Meilyr Jones crafts whimsical chamber pop as both singer and songwriter. While still a teenager in Aberystwyth, he helped launch the psych-pop outfit Race Horses—first known as Radio Luxembourg—in 2005. Fronting the group in Welsh and English alike, he guided their output across the 2007 EP Diwrnod Efo'r Anifeiliaid, the 2010 album Goodbye Falkenberg, and the concluding release Furniture in 2012. The ensemble closed its run with a farewell concert at Cardiff’s Clwb Ifor Bach in February 2013. During the same period Jones completed three years at the Royal Academy of Music only to withdraw, and he lent support to fellow Welsh artists by contributing to Cate Le Bon’s 2012 album Cyrk and by touring with Neon Neon behind the 2013 record Praxis Makes Perfect. A spring 2013 visit to Rome inspired his first solo project, the album 2013, which appeared on Moshi Moshi Records in March 2016.
