Biography
The innovative Indian-world fusion ensemble Melodic Intersect, based in Baltimore, Maryland, crafts a genre-bending sound that fuses jazz, North Indian classical, rock, Eastern and Western folk traditions, and additional elements. Lauded tabla master Enayet Hossain launched the project in 2013, assembling a fluid roster of collaborators that has at times included guitarist Hans Utter, keyboardist Greg Hatza, santoor player Tarun Bhattacharya, sitarists Hidayat Khan and Shakir Khan, percussionist Avirodh Sharma, harmonium player and vocalist Humayoon Popal, tabla player Saleiman Azizi, and keyboardist Mahroof Sharif. Their first album, Global Vision, appeared in 2014, followed later that year by Inner Vision, which received a nomination for Best World Beat album at the 14th Annual Independent Music Awards. In 2017 the ensemble issued two further albums, Looking Forward and Eastern Visions, the second of which incorporated contributions from classical sitar player Anjan Chattopadhyay, bassist Charles Solomon, and conga player Sam Prasad Jillella.
