Biography
Drawing from the independent ethos of outfits such as Pavement and the Velvet Underground, Meltwater produces its own strain of indie rock marked by psychedelic textures and unconventional musical ideas. The trio formed in late 1998 in Cardiff, Wales, in the United Kingdom, with David Lloyd on vocals, Dave Hollins on bass, and Lee Chick on drums. Lloyd, the principal creative force behind the group, had earlier been part of the U.K. band Charlie Brown, Hollins had previously performed with Easy Meat, and Chick had been a residing element of Jack. After their earlier projects reached assorted conclusions, the three musicians came together at Lloyd's instigation. Meltwater quickly emerged as a fixture in the Welsh music scene, creating soundtracks for films by local directors while readying to record its first disc.
