Biography
In 1997 the quartet Mental Market formed in Pihtipudas, Finland, intent on forging a melodic strain of power pop and noise. Their sound, shaped by Neil Young, Hüsker Dü, Nirvana, and Sugar, first surfaced on the 1998 debut EP Insults through an array of guitar effects and vocal harmonies. Popatak Records issued that EP and, two years later, followed it with the band’s first album, Spooky.
