Brothers Gary and Dwayne Dassing launched the electronic and industrial outfit Mentallo & the Fixer toward the end of the 1980s, following an earlier stint in Benestrophe. Operating from their Austin, Texas base, the siblings issued No Rest for the Wicked in 1992 through Simbiose Records before securing a deal with the prominent German imprint Zoth Ommog. Once Revelations 23 appeared, Mentallo & the Fixer established a U.S. presence via Metropolis Records, whose early catalog included a domestic reissue of that album; later the same year Metropolis also put out Where Angels Fear to Tread and Continuum. The Dassings tracked their fifth studio effort, Burnt Beyond Recognition, in 1997, yet the project marked their final joint Mentallo & the Fixer album after Dwayne left the group. Gary carried on alone, delivering Algorythum in 1999, followed by Love Is the Law the next year and Return to Grimpen Ward in early 2001.
