Biography
Bay Area DJ Mikael Johnston teamed up with Barrie Eves and Orpheos Dejournette to launch the acid trance outfit Mephisto Odyssey in the closing months of 1993. Early sessions yielded dancefloor staples such as "Dream of the Black Dahlia," "The Motive," "Get Down," and "Catching the Skinny," after which the trio issued its first album—titled after the most recent of those singles—on the City of Angels label. A remix assignment for Jane's Addiction's "So What!" led directly to a contract with Warner Bros. Records, and DJ Josh Camacho was brought into the lineup soon afterward. The EP The Lift appeared in spring 2000, with the group’s major-label debut The Deep Red Connection following that August.
