At just sixteen, Meredith Edwards drew swift attention from Nashville industry figures upon issuing her debut single, "A Rose Is a Rose." The accompanying video, which depicted a romance between a girl of modest means and a wealthy boy, generated additional buzz while highlighting the strength and beauty of her vocal delivery.

A native of Clinton, Mississippi, Edwards began performing for relatives and astonishing family acquaintances well before reaching school age. At five she joined the Mississippi Showstoppers, a respected traveling children’s choir whose members included Lance Bass, the future ’N Sync heartthrob who also hailed from Clinton. Years afterward, the two singers performed together in the choir Attaché. Following Bass’s rise with ’N Sync, Edwards toured alongside the group and served as an opening act. When Bass later founded his own management company, he selected Edwards as its first client.

In 2001 she completed her debut album, Reach, which Mercury released. Among its tracks are “Places in Your Heart,” “You Get to Me,” and “In Any Given Moment.” While rooted in country, several selections lean toward the style sometimes labeled new country or today country, blending pop-rock energy with an enduring country sensibility.
