Biography
Ernest Gonzales, the multilingual producer based in San Antonio, Texas, records under the name Mexicans with Guns. His work occupies the overlap between post-dubstep and experimental hip-hop, matching resonant low-end pulses and unruly drum patterns with jagged shards of noise and spliced vocal fragments. The alias first surfaced in 2008 with a remix of Gonzales’s own track “Lullaby 5.” The next year he reworked material by Major Lazer, Yppah, and others while issuing the Nuts and Bongos EP on his Exponential label. Remixes for Bassnectar and Oy followed in 2010, as did the Me Gusto EP on Innovative Leisure.
