Chicago's Mezodigm came together in 1998 around guitarist and singer Chris Estrada along with drummer Andy Martin. A turbulent stretch of drinking, drugs, women, and internal shifts still allowed the group to lay down material. When the With a Bullet EP surfaced in 1999, guitarist John Akred and bassist Ben Harbert had already joined. Further upheaval followed: Martin departed for Los Angeles, where he and Harbert formed a garage-pop band in 2000. Scott Moore arrived to fill the drum seat, and Tom Hester took over on bass. The full-length studio album Anchor Watt & the Weekend Warriors arrived in early 2002, yet Moore soon exited. East coast native Steve Treichel, previously of the D.C. acts Aerialist and Pines of Nowhere, was brought aboard, but persistent lineup flux ultimately led Mezodigm to disband in August 2003.
