MGR

No one would have found it unexpected when the guitarist from post-metal trailblazers Isis began a side endeavor devoted chiefly to ambient guitar explorations. Michael Gallagher leads the project MGR, short for Mustard Gas & Roses, which originated around 2005. Its formal launch arrived with the 2006 full-length Nova Lux on the Neurosis-associated imprint Neurot. Later that year came the EP Impromptu. Gallagher issued MGR's next album in 2007, Wavering on the Cresting Heft, which included guest contributions from a string quartet, Greg Burns of Red Sparowes, and Dälek's Oktopus.
