Biography
Born on a farm near Locust Grove, Oklahoma, roughly fifty miles east of Tulsa, Mica Roberts grew up immersed in music from an early age. The soulful, classy singer and songwriter still owns that property, though she has long made her home in Nashville. During her school years she threw herself into every musical opportunity available, performing with the band and choir while also enrolling in evening music courses at Tulsa Junior College throughout her junior and senior years; those efforts earned her multiple scholarships. After graduation she chose life on the road instead of further study, spending four years playing amusement parks and campgrounds, including a stretch aboard a cruise ship, before finally settling in Nashville. While working as a waitress she began performing at the Bull Pen Lounge, where she first crossed paths with country singer Toby Keith. Nine years after her arrival she secured a background-vocalist position with Faith Hill and spent the next four years on the road with her, later joining tours by Jessica Andrews, Martina McBride, and Billy Bob Thornton. In 2003, while the Thornton tour played her home state, she was introduced to Willie Nelson on his bus; Toby Keith arrived shortly afterward, recognized Roberts from her Bull Pen Lounge performances, and invited her to sing background vocals on his current live dates. She accepted and has remained a member of his Easy Money band ever since. Her featured solo moments and overall contributions stood out so strongly that Keith signed her to his Show Dog Nashville imprint, which issued her debut single, “Things a Mama Don't Know,” in 2008.
