Biography
Michael Grimm, a guitarist and vocalist inclined toward blues-infused Southern soul, gained prominence by claiming victory in the 2010 edition of NBC's America's Got Talent. His upbringing in Waveland, Mississippi, under his grandparents' care sparked an early passion for music during services at the local Baptist church, where his grandmother served as pianist. Immersed in a mix of gospel hymns and country tunes throughout his childhood, he began composing and playing original songs during his teenage years. Moving to Las Vegas later on, he established himself performing regularly in local bars and clubs, cultivating an audience for his blend of Southern soul and rock. Prior to trying out for America's Got Talent in the first months of 2010, he had already put out a pair of independent albums. His rendition of "When a Man Loves a Woman" on September 14 proved pivotal in securing his win on the NBC talent show. Following his triumph on AGT, he issued his third solo album, Leave Your Hat On, and inked a deal with Epic Records. Produced by Don Was, his self-titled debut on a major label came out in May 2011.
