In the late '70s, Texas modern rocker Michael Hall attended the University of Texas journalism school and contributed to The Austin Chronicle before becoming a member of the Wild Seeds. Between 1985 and 1988 the group issued three albums—Life Is Grand (Life in Soul City), Brave, Clean & Reverent, and Mud, Lies & Shame. The band dissolved in 1989 once its label Passport declared bankruptcy, yet by then it had already built a nationwide cult following. Hall’s debut solo release, Quarter to Three, appeared in 1990 and featured contributions from Walter Salas-Humara, J.D. Foster of the Silos, Rich Brotherton, and Rosie Flores. He continued with the albums Love and Murder in 1993, Adequate Desire in 1994, and Day in 1996.
