Listen on Coda
Trained at the conservatory as both pianist and composer, Harrison blends classical, jazz, and ethnic elements into a distinctive personal style, having studied under minimalist pioneer La Monte Young. His investigations into alternate tuning systems eventually prompted the design of an instrument he named the "harmonic piano," whose strings are engineered for sympathetic resonance in the manner of a sitar. Each octave on this piano contains twenty-four notes rather than the usual twelve.
